Police rescue abducted Ekiti worshippers

Worshippers abducted from the Christ Apostolic Church in Eda-Oniyo, Ekiti State, have been rescued by the state police command. The successful operation followed a sustained, intelligence-led effort involving a broad coalition of security agencies and local stakeholders.

The rescue involved the police, military, Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and received support from the Ekiti State Government. The victims have been taken for medical evaluation and treatment. Police spokesperson SP Sunday Abutu confirmed the rescue, emphasizing the professionalism and collaboration among the participating agencies.

Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye commended the inter-agency synergy and Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his support. Residents were also thanked for providing crucial information that aided the operation. The abduction occurred on April 28 during an overnight service, where attackers killed the pastor and kidnapped 16 individuals, including women and children.

Initial ransom demands of N1 billion were later reduced, and despite the community raising N10.5 million and other items, the worshippers remained captive. This prompted protests and a resolution from the House of Representatives calling for their immediate release. Police efforts are now focused on apprehending those responsible for the attack.
