Police rescue six abducted children, arrest suspected trafficker in Abia State

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Abia State have successfully rescued six abducted children and apprehended a 51-year-old man suspected of involvement in child trafficking. The suspect, identified as Nnamdi Lazarus from Imo State, was arrested following an intelligence-led operation by the Violent Crime Response Unit in Aba.

The rescued children, aged between three and seven, were found in the suspect's custody. They have since been reunited with their families. The police identified the children as Nnenna Ogbuogu, 3, and Nwanne Ogbuogu, 5, from Abriba; Amanda Emmanuella, 3, Destiny Emmanuel, 7, and Anointing Emmanuel, 5, all from Item; and Ihechi Obasi, 7, also from Item.

Authorities stated that investigations are continuing to identify and arrest other individuals associated with the suspected child trafficking syndicate. Mr. Lazarus is expected to face charges in court once the investigation concludes. The Abia State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating organized crime through intelligence-led policing, assuring residents that criminal elements will face no safe haven within the state.

This operation occurs amidst heightened efforts by the state police to tackle various forms of organized crime, including cultism and armed robbery. Recent operations have led to the arrest of suspected robbers and cultists, the recovery of firearms, and convictions against child molesters, reflecting a broader push to enhance child protection and public safety.
