Police rescue two abducted kids, nab inter-state kidnap gang in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has successfully rescued two abducted children and apprehended four individuals suspected of belonging to an inter-state kidnapping ring. The operations, described as intelligence-led, also resulted in the recovery of sophisticated firearms and mobile phones.

Acting on credible intelligence, supported by technical resources and coordinated field operations, the joint security team successfully traced the abductors’ hideout deep within the forest. On sighting the advancing security team, the hoodlums opened fire, resulting in a gun duel. The operatives responded professionally, overpowering the criminals and forcing them to flee in different directions.

The first operation targeted an invasion of Ebinpejo Village in Ibarapa East Local Government Area, where armed individuals abducted two children. A joint security team, comprising police, Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters, was immediately deployed. The team tracked the abductors to a forest hideout, leading to a gun duel. One suspect, Umaru Usman, 25, was arrested with gunshot wounds.

The four suspects are currently assisting investigators with useful information aimed at identifying and apprehending other members of the criminal network.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Abdullahi Ahmed, 28, who also sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange. Police identified Sunday Idowu, 30, as a local collaborator, and Muhammed Ibrahim Shina, 29, who allegedly traveled from Kwara State to participate. The four suspects are cooperating with investigators to identify other network members. The rescued children received medical attention and were reunited with their families. In a separate operation, police also targeted an armed robbery syndicate in Lagos.

The two abducted children were rescued safely and promptly taken for medical attention. One of the victims sustained injuries during the ordeal but received treatment before both children were successfully reunited with their family.
