Police rescue two kidnap victims, neutralise suspected abductor in Oyo

In a coordinated operation in Oyo State, Nigeria, a joint security team has successfully rescued two individuals who were abducted by suspected kidnappers. The operation, which involved officers from the Nigeria Police Force, the Amotekun Corps, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), and local hunters, also resulted in the neutralization of one suspected kidnapper. The victims were taken from Alhaji Gbonkan’s camp in Gaa Alhaji, Oorelope Local Government Area, on Monday evening by armed assailants.

The abducted individuals were identified as Alhaji Usman Abubakar, Aliu Usman, and Saliu Abubakar. Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, immediately launched a search-and-rescue mission. Security operatives conducted a forensic examination of the crime scene and utilized local intelligence to track the suspects into the surrounding forests.

The joint security team located the kidnappers' hideout, leading to a fierce gun battle. During the exchange of fire, one suspect was killed, while others reportedly fled with gunshot wounds. Two of the rescued victims received medical attention; one sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. A member of the VGN was injured during the operation and is receiving treatment.

A third victim became separated from the group during the escape and is currently the subject of intensive search efforts, with authorities believing he is safe. The police are intensifying their manhunt for the fleeing suspects to ensure their apprehension and prosecution. Commissioner Olugbenga reaffirmed the command's unwavering commitment to combating violent crime and dismantling criminal networks in the state, commending the collaborative efforts of all security agencies involved.
