Police Search PPP Servers in Han Dong-hoon Family Defamation Case

Police have conducted a search and seizure of servers managed by a company responsible for the People Power Party's (PPP) online bulletin board. This action is part of an investigation into allegations of defamation concerning the family of independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon.

The case centers on a post made on the PPP's official bulletin board in November 2024, which allegedly defamed former President Yoon Suk Yeol. At the time, Han Dong-hoon was the leader of the PPP, and his family was reportedly implicated in the post. Han was subsequently expelled from the party in January due to this incident.

The search marks the first compulsory measure taken by the police in connection with the bulletin board case. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Division reportedly questioned PPP officials involved in managing the bulletin board last month.

This development has drawn suspicion from Han Dong-hoon's supporters within the PPP. They interpret the party leadership's cooperation with the police investigation as a strategic move to pressure Han and potentially influence his bid to rejoin the party. Rep. Jang Dong-hyuk, a party leader, has publicly opposed Han's return.

Han Dong-hoon himself has asserted his innocence, stating that a fair investigation would reveal the truth. He claims that party officials, specifically the party's audit committee chair and ethics committee chair, fabricated evidence to falsely implicate his family in the post. The investigation is ongoing, with the potential outcome impacting Han's political future.
