Police Station Opens in Hitler's Birthplace

A police station has opened in the house where Adolf Hitler was born in 1889, located in the Austrian town of Braunau am Inn, near the German border. The move aims to transform a site historically associated with the Nazi dictator into a space for law enforcement and education.

Authorities hope that the building's new function as a police station will serve as a deterrent to right-wing extremists who might otherwise consider the house a pilgrimage site. The renovation of the property, which cost more than 220 million Swedish kronor (approximately $20 million USD), was completed three years behind schedule.

In addition to its role as a police station, the building will also be utilized for training police officers on the principles of human rights. This dual purpose seeks to repurpose a historically sensitive location into a center for promoting democratic values and combating extremism.
