Police Warn of Traffic Restrictions During King Harald’s Funeral

Norwegian police are warning drivers to expect traffic restrictions on the E6 during King Harald’s funeral on Sept. 9. Some motorway entrances and exits may close for short periods in both directions from Sept. 8 through Sept. 10.

Police urged motorists and others affected by the arrangements to avoid the E6 where possible and to follow updates from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. Temporary air-traffic restrictions will also apply.

Oslo Airport is preparing for unusually heavy activity on the day of the funeral. Avinor said the arrival of many guests and delegations could cause cancellations or delays in the regular flight schedule, particularly in the morning. Travelers have been asked to arrive early and monitor information from their airlines.

Spain’s royal court confirmed that King Felipe, Queen Letizia and the king’s mother, Queen Sofia, will attend. Felipe is the godfather of Norway’s Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra. Members of the public have also been able to view King Harald’s coffin at the Palace Chapel, where queues stretched hundreds of meters on Friday afternoon.
