Polish Justice Minister on Radosław Piesiewicz Case: 'We want to prevent the erasure of evidence'

Polish Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek stated that the primary goal in the ongoing investigation is to prosecute individuals who allegedly misused citizens' funds through the Zondacrypto exchange. Speaking at a press conference, Żurek emphasized the need to secure the assets of those involved to compensate the victims.

"We want to prevent the erasure of evidence," Żurek said, confirming that further procedural steps will be taken concerning the arrested individual, identified as Radosław Piesiewicz. He noted that the investigation is complex and serious, particularly as it potentially links to the alleged murder of the former CEO of BitBay, the predecessor to Zondacrypto.

Piesiewicz, who is also the head of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl), was reportedly arrested at his home. Media reports suggest the investigation is connected to allegations that Piesiewicz received a luxury watch worth 170,000 Polish złoty from Przemysław Kral, the president of the now-defunct Zondacrypto exchange. This was allegedly in exchange for "intervening" regarding the exchange's issues with the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.

Piesiewicz has denied these allegations. The arrest was carried out by officers from the Central Bureau of Bureau of Cybercrime, acting on behalf of the Katowice branch of the National Prosecutor's Office. During a search of Piesiewicz's home, a Patek Philippe watch was reportedly found. The Minister indicated that more information would be released after the completion of initial proceedings.
