Polish politician mocks internal PiS feuds with fabricated meeting anecdote

Sławomir Mentzen, leader of the Confederation party, has injected a dose of sarcasm into the ongoing internal disputes within Poland's Law and Justice (PiS) party. Mentzen, known for his sharp political commentary, took to the social media platform X to mock the so-called "maślarze" (butter churners) and "harcerze" (scouts) factions within PiS.

I completely buy the narrative of the butter-churner PiS that the scouts are working for Tusk and want to form a coalition with him. It's not for nothing that they've been saying the same about me for a long time.

He humorously embraced the narrative that the "butter churners" within PiS believe the "scouts" are working with Donald Tusk, the leader of Civic Platform, to form a coalition. Mentzen then escalated the jest by claiming he, along with PiS leader Mateusz Morawiecki and Tusk himself, once sat together with Ursula von der Leyen, with the European Commission president blessing their meeting from a laptop. This satirical jab directly references accusations leveled against the Confederation party by some PiS members.

Earlier, a "message of the day" reportedly circulated among PiS politicians suggested that the Confederation party was intended to act as a "new Third Way" to preserve Tusk's influence. This alleged internal directive highlighted a perceived contradiction in the Confederation's stance, claiming they spoke of "overturning the table" while also being open to coalition talks with Tusk's Civic Platform. Mentzen's sarcastic remark appears to be a direct response to these accusations, turning the tables with a fabricated, yet pointed, anecdote.
