Political thugs attack NDC office in Rivers and destroy campaign billboards

Suspected political thugs attacked the Nigeria Democratic Congress secretariat in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, destroying the party’s billboards, banners and other campaign materials.

The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday night at the party office in Emohua Town, the headquarters of the local government area. Large billboards and campaign banners mounted on the building were among the signs damaged.

Fugbara Ohaka, the NDC House of Representatives candidate for the Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, condemned the attack and appealed to party members and supporters to remain calm. He said political differences must not turn into violence, intimidation or the destruction of property.

Ohaka said the NDC would not be provoked into taking the law into its own hands. He called on security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable faced the law.

He said politics should focus on ideas, development, service and the welfare of the people rather than violence. With the 2027 general elections ahead, he urged political actors to embrace peace, tolerance and responsible engagement, and reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful, issue-based and people-centred campaign.
