Ponorogo Satpol PP tightens patrols to anticipate beggars during Grebeg Suro 2026

The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) in Ponorogo, East Java, is stepping up patrols throughout the Grebeg Suro 2026 event to maintain public order. The primary focus is to prevent the emergence of beggars, vagrants, and street performers who often take advantage of the large crowds at this annual cultural festival.

The individual has been secured and subsequently handed over to the Social Services for the Empowerment of Women and Children for further guidance.

Subiyantoro, Head of Public Order and Community Peace at the Ponorogo Satpol PP, confirmed that the unit has already taken action, securing one individual engaged in begging activities in the city center. This individual has been transferred to the Social Services for the Empowerment of Women and Children for appropriate guidance and rehabilitation.

To ensure comprehensive coverage, Satpol PP has deployed personnel to strategic security posts and is conducting mobile patrols in areas identified as potential hotspots. These efforts extend to monitoring key locations such as the Ponorogo Square and establishing a security post on Jalan HOS Cokroaminoto. Patrols are also extended to the borders of Ponorogo Regency to intercept individuals attempting to enter the area for such activities.

Subiyantoro emphasized that daily patrols will continue throughout the Grebeg Suro event, with particular attention paid to busy intersections and traffic lights frequently used by beggars. The local government hopes that these measures will contribute to a safe, orderly, and enjoyable Grebeg Suro 2026, reinforcing Ponorogo's image as an attractive cultural tourism destination.
