Poor infrastructure, insecurity hindering businesses in Onitsha, ONICCIMA

Businesses and industrial growth in Onitsha, Anambra State, face significant hurdles due to a combination of poor infrastructure and pervasive insecurity, according to the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ONICCIMA).

The chamber highlighted several critical factors impeding economic activity. These include inadequate infrastructure, a challenging security environment, frequent flooding, and the burden of multiple taxation. Furthermore, the unreliable supply of electricity continues to disrupt operations and deter investment.

ONICCIMA also pointed to the harassment of visitors and investors, particularly in the Bridgehead area of Onitsha, as a major deterrent. These issues collectively create a difficult operating environment, stifling the potential for industrial expansion and economic development in the region.
