Pope Francis sends financial aid to Nepal after devastating floods

Pope Francis has directed financial assistance to Caritas Nepal in response to the devastating floods that struck the country last Wednesday. The Pontiff's contribution, the amount of which has not been disclosed, is intended to provide immediate relief to those affected by the disaster.

The aid will be channeled through Caritas Nepal and will be allocated towards essential supplies such as food and basic necessities, as well as supporting temporary shelters for the numerous individuals displaced by the catastrophic flooding. This gesture underscores the Vatican's commitment to humanitarian aid in times of crisis.

In addition to the Pope's contribution, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Italy has also mobilized resources, donating 500,000 euros. These funds were generated from donations made by the faithful during their tax declarations, demonstrating a broader Catholic response to the tragedy.

As of Saturday, Nepalese authorities reported that 669 bodies had been recovered following the floods in the Bhote Koshi river basin. This brings the total death toll across Nepal and Tibet to 676 people. The disaster has also left nearly 3,000 individuals unaccounted for on both sides of the border, highlighting the scale of the devastation and the urgent need for ongoing humanitarian support.
