Pope Francis thanks international aid efforts for earthquake-stricken Venezuela

Pope Francis has conveyed his solidarity and gratitude to Venezuela in the wake of a powerful earthquake that has resulted in more than 1,430 fatalities, thousands of injuries, and extensive material damage. During his Angelus address from the Vatican, the pontiff expressed his closeness to the victims and their families.

"I wish to express my closeness to the Venezuelan sisters and brothers affected by the recent earthquakes that caused numerous victims and injured, as well as immense material damage," Pope Francis stated in Spanish. He also prayed for the eternal rest of the deceased and offered his spiritual support to those grappling with the aftermath of the tragedy.

The Pope specifically acknowledged and thanked those involved in the ongoing search and rescue operations. As Venezuela continues to clear debris in search of the missing, international aid has been pouring in. Countries such as India, Costa Rica, Argentina, the United States, Ecuador, Spain, the Dominican Republic, Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Guatemala have dispatched humanitarian assistance, specialized rescue teams, and essential supplies. The United Nations has also established three field hospitals to bolster medical services in the affected regions.
