Pope Leo XIV Arrives in Madrid Saturday for Apostolic Visit

Madrid is preparing to welcome Pope Leo XIV this Saturday, marking the first stage of his apostolic journey to Spain. The pontiff will be in the capital from June 6 to June 9, with a schedule that blends institutional acts, pastoral encounters, and large public celebrations. His arrival is expected at 10:30 AM at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. Following an official reception, he will proceed to the Royal Palace for a welcome ceremony at 11:30 AM and a courtesy visit to the King and Queen of Spain at 12:00 PM. Later, he will meet with authorities, civil society representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps. In the afternoon, at 6:00 PM, he will visit Cáritas Madrid's CEDIA 24 Horas social project, which assists vulnerable individuals. The day will conclude with a youth prayer vigil in Plaza de Lima at 8:30 PM. The central event of his visit will be on Sunday, June 7, when Pope Leo XIV will preside over Holy Mass and the Corpus Christi procession at Plaza de Cibeles, anticipated to be one of the largest gatherings during his stay. The afternoon will feature pastoral and cultural engagements in the capital, including an event at the Movistar Arena. From June 8 to 9, the program includes meetings with civil and ecclesial representatives, as well as gatherings with the Madrid Catholic community, including a meeting at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium before his departure for Barcelona, the next stop on his Spanish tour. This visit to Madrid is part of Leo XIV's apostolic journey across Spain from June 6 to 12, the first papal visit to the country since 2011.
