Barcelona, Spain – Pope Leo XIV strongly condemned violence against women and called for mental health to be a central focus of healthcare systems during a large vigil attended by approximately 40,000 people at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona. The pontiff also criticized the societal obsession with profit and achievement.

Earlier in Madrid, Pope Leo XIV concluded his visit to the Spanish capital by meeting with 12,000 volunteers who facilitated his stay. During his time in Barcelona, he alternated between Catalan and Spanish in his public addresses. Before the large vigil, he blessed a convoy of ambulances designated for Ukraine, part of a humanitarian corridor organized by Sister Lucía Caram.
