Despite the first-half struggles, Popovic introduced three substitutions at the start of the second half, which visibly improved Australia's performance, leading to a more aggressive and balanced display. He expressed satisfaction with the team's fighting spirit, noting that many players lack experience in top-tier leagues but responded well.
