Port Owes Nearly 140 Million Rupees in Credit Fuel for Ex-Minister's Boats

The Lanka Fishery Harbors Corporation has failed to recover a significant amount of money owed for fuel supplied on credit, according to a report by the National Audit Office. Nearly 140 million rupees are outstanding for diesel provided to fishing vessels and vehicles belonging to a former Eastern Provincial Council member. The corporation has not yet collected this sum, despite the credit arrangement.

Furthermore, the audit report highlights the corporation's failure to recoup losses stemming from a fuel leak. This incident occurred during the installation of underground fuel pipes at the Dikowita harbor's northern jetty. The leak resulted in the wastage of approximately 2,700 liters of fuel.

The installation of these pipes took place in 2019. These findings are detailed in the audit report included in the 2024 annual report of the Lanka Fishery Harbors Corporation. The report underscores a lack of diligence in financial recovery and oversight within the corporation's operations.
