Potential explosive drone reported near Constanța beach, authorities prepare for detonation

Authorities in Constanța, Romania, are on alert after a drone was reportedly sighted on Saturday evening near the Plaja Modern area. The device is suspected to be carrying explosives, and emergency services are preparing for a controlled detonation.

This incident follows a series of similar discoveries along the Romanian coast. Just days earlier, on Wednesday, August 26, fragments of a drone confirmed to have an explosive charge were found on the beach in Olimp. The area was immediately secured by authorities, and bomb disposal experts successfully detonated the device.

Further raising concerns, a fragment suspected to be from a drone was also discovered this week near the Constanța Casino. This object was found among the breakwaters and has been collected by police for examination. These findings suggest a pattern of potentially dangerous objects appearing in coastal areas.

In June, a more serious incident occurred in the Port of Constanța when a Ukrainian maritime drone self-detonated after being discovered. While no casualties were reported, the explosion caused material damage to a nearby warehouse and a ship. The area had been evacuated and secured prior to the detonation. The recurring reports of drones, some with explosive capabilities, have created a climate of unease along the Black Sea coast.
