Potsdam warns residents of increased wild boar activity in city

Potsdam is warning its residents about a growing number of wild boars venturing into urban areas. The city administration reported increased sightings of the animals in residential zones, parks, and other public spaces over recent weeks. Officials attribute this trend to disruptions in the wild boars' natural habitats, which are pushing them further into the city.

Residents have been urged to keep a safe distance from the wild boars and refrain from attempting to drive them away or feed them. Special caution is advised regarding young wild boars, as mothers can be protective. The city also requested that any dead wild boars be reported for examination for swine fever, a measure aimed at assessing the situation and implementing necessary public safety actions.

The issue echoes similar problems in Kleinmachnow, a town near Potsdam, where wild boars have long been a nuisance, often seen raiding residential areas. Kleinmachnow even introduced an online platform for residents to report sightings, following a bizarre incident where a supposed lion sighting turned out to be a wild boar.
