Heatwave Approaches: Weather Service Expects 32 Degrees Today

Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland are bracing for a significant heatwave, with temperatures set to soar in the coming days. The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts highs of 28 to 32 degrees Celsius today, accompanied by clear, sunny skies and no chance of rain. Nights will offer some respite, cooling down to between 14 and 19 degrees Celsius.

The heat is expected to intensify by Wednesday, when maximum temperatures could reach between 33 and 38 degrees Celsius. Higher elevations will remain cooler, around 31 degrees Celsius. Some regions may experience "tropical nights," with temperatures failing to drop below 20 degrees Celsius.

Thursday's forecast indicates a possibility of scattered showers, though much of the day is expected to remain dry. However, the afternoon could see an increase in showers moving in from the west, potentially bringing strong thunderstorms with heavy rain, gusty winds, and hail. Despite these possibilities, temperatures are still projected to climb to 34 to 39 degrees Celsius, with mountain regions seeing highs around 32 degrees Celsius.

Friday is expected to be partly cloudy with sunny spells, and isolated showers are possible. Thunderstorms may occur in the southern parts of the region. Temperatures will remain warm, ranging from 29 to 34 degrees Celsius, and between 26 to 29 degrees Celsius in higher elevations.
