Power outages hit Moldova as storms damage Bălți–Dnestrovsk electricity line

Moldova is experiencing widespread power outages due to severe storms that have heavily damaged its energy infrastructure. The Ministry of Energy reported that the 330 kV Bălți–Dnestrovsk high-voltage line suffered significant damage from extreme weather.

Preliminary assessments indicate that around ten high-voltage pylons were damaged or toppled approximately 15 kilometers from Bălți. Teams from the electricity transmission operator, Moldelectrica, are on-site assessing the extent of the damage and determining the necessary technical solutions for repairs.

Moldelectrica stated that if repairs are conducted solely with their own resources, power restoration could exceed seven days. Consequently, the ministry is exploring all options to expedite the work, including involving specialized companies and checking material stocks. The storms have also caused fallen trees and blocked roads in northern Moldova, exacerbating the impact.

Moldelectrica's teams are already on the ground inspecting each affected sector to establish the exact extent of the damage and the necessary technical solutions. If the intervention were carried out exclusively with Moldelectrica's own resources, the estimated restoration time exceeds seven days. Therefore, we have requested an evaluation of all options to accelerate the work, including the involvement of other specialized companies and immediate verification of material stocks.
