Prabowo Attends Memorial for Former Defense Minister

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto paid his final respects to former Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu on Monday, June 1, 2026. The memorial service took place at the Bhineka Tunggal Ika Building at the Ministry of Defense in Jakarta.

President Prabowo arrived around 8:30 AM and was greeted with a military honor fanfare. He was accompanied by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya, and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. Several other high-ranking officials and military figures, including the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Agus Subiyanto and former Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, were already present to pay their respects.

Ryamizard Ryacudu, who also served as the former Chief of the Indonesian Army Staff, passed away on Sunday afternoon, May 31, 2026, at the age of 76. His body was to be buried with military honors at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta, with Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin leading the funeral ceremony.

President Prabowo, however, will not be able to attend the funeral procession. He is scheduled to preside over the National Pancasila Day ceremony at the Pancasila Building Field later that morning, which begins around 10:00 AM.
