Prabowo: Indonesia's R&D Investment Still Low, We Will Improve It

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has admitted that the country's investment in Research and Development (RnD) is significantly low. He stated that this is a self-correction for the nation and promised to improve the situation in the future.

"We correct ourselves as a nation, our investment in Research and Development is very little, far from what it should be, this is our correction, and in the future, we will strive to fix it," Prabowo said during a speech to approximately 150 researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

Prabowo pointed to Indonesia's performance in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) as an example of the country's lagging scientific development. While Indonesia's PISA scores are higher than the Philippines, they remain below other ASEAN nations like Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

He stressed his commitment to enhancing the quality of education, asserting that a great nation is one that masters scientific knowledge. The President met with BRIN researchers who are expected to present their findings on various national issues, including food security, energy, space exploration, nuclear technology, and health.
