Prabowo to Meet Putin in Russia This Week

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is expected to meet Vladimir Putin again during his visit to Russia this week, although the Kremlin has not set the exact date. Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov said the meeting would take place on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

Prabowo is scheduled to visit Russia on Sept. 3 to attend the forum, which runs from Sept. 1 to 4. Tolchenov said Prabowo and Putin would serve as keynote speakers. Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yury Ushakov also confirmed that Putin was scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prabowo on Sept. 3.

Of course, the bilateral meeting is expected to take place, but the exact date will be determined by the Russian presidency.

Tolchenov described the planned meeting as reflecting the strong friendship between Indonesia and Russia. “If I’m not mistaken, this will be their fifth meeting in the last two years,” he said.

The ambassador said he hoped the leaders would discuss how to turn an agreement to strengthen cooperation across various sectors into concrete actions benefiting both countries. Indonesian participants will also attend the forum, including an Aceh representative speaking on regional development in Asia-Pacific countries and a large delegation from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The forum’s plenary session is also scheduled to include Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, Myanmar Vice President Nyo Saw and Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang.
