Prabowo Urges Calm and Safety Compliance Near Anak Krakatau

President Prabowo Subianto has urged people in Jakarta, Banten, Lampung and areas around the Sunda Strait to stay calm and increase their vigilance after eruptive activity at Mount Anak Krakatau.

In a statement released in Jakarta on Sunday, September 6, Prabowo told residents not to approach the volcano. He also called on them to respect danger zones and safety perimeters established by authorities.

“To our brothers and sisters in Jakarta, Banten, Lampung, and the areas surrounding the Sunda Strait, please remain calm, increase your vigilance, and follow all directions from the government and officers in the field. Do not approach the Mount Anak Krakatau area, and fully comply with the danger zones and safety limits established by authorities,” he said.

The president said the government was closely monitoring developments and receiving regular updates from relevant agencies. He directed the National Disaster Management Agency, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the armed forces, police, regional governments, the Health Ministry, the Transportation Ministry and other institutions to maintain continuous oversight.

Authorities were also instructed to remain fully operational and provide protection and assistance. For residents affected by ash, Prabowo recommended masks or other respiratory protection, fewer outdoor activities when ash became thick, and compliance with instructions from health officials and local governments. He said he would continue overseeing the situation and taking necessary decisions to protect citizens, while inviting the public to pray for people living near Anak Krakatau and elsewhere facing disasters and hardship.
