Pramono Claims ASN WFH Policy Successfully Reduces Jakarta Traffic

Governor Pramono Anung of Jakarta has lauded the effectiveness of the provincial government's work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants, which began on April 11, 2026. The policy, implemented every Friday, has seen a notable decrease in traffic congestion across the capital, according to the Governor's assessment.

In Jakarta, because the mechanism is already in place, we implement work from home every Friday. And on Fridays, it's not just the Jakarta ASN, but central government ASN also participate.

Anung explained that the WFH initiative includes not only civil servants from the Jakarta provincial government but also those from central government agencies located in the city. This coordinated effort aims to alleviate the daily gridlock that plagues Jakarta, a perennial issue for its millions of residents.

"In Jakarta, because the mechanism is already in place, we implement work from home every Friday. And on Fridays, it's not just the Jakarta ASN, but central government ASN also participate," Anung stated. He emphasized that the policy has been evaluated and found to be highly effective, leading to a "drastic reduction" in traffic.

However, the Governor stressed that civil servants must adhere strictly to the WFH guidelines. They are required to remain at their homes and are explicitly forbidden from working in external locations such as cafes. This measure ensures that the WFH policy genuinely contributes to reducing the number of vehicles on the road during peak hours, thereby maximizing its impact on traffic flow.
