PRD Mexico City Outlines New Political Route for 2027 Elections, Plans City-Wide Outreach

The Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) in Mexico City is charting a new course towards the 2027 elections, focusing on direct engagement with citizens across all 16 mayoralties. The party unveiled its strategy, emphasizing a commitment to becoming an open, democratic, and accessible political institution.

Our party remains in the minds of the capital's residents because of its history, its results, and above all its achievements, so it is important to go to meet them with a new agenda, and that is why we must listen to them.

Luz Rocha Silva, the party's secretary of Political Training and Youth, stated that the PRD remains relevant among the capital's residents due to its history, past achievements, and successes. She stressed the importance of actively seeking out citizens with a fresh agenda. Rocha Silva asserted that Mexico City requires a political path grounded in causes, freedoms, and a modern, democratic, progressive, and deeply humane left-wing ideology.

We want young people with new ideas, women with leadership, people from academia, culture, entrepreneurship, indigenous peoples, sexual diversity, social organizations, people with disabilities, and all those citizens who have never asked for privileges, but an opportunity to serve, to arrive.

The PRD intends to foster open and transparent candidacies, ensuring representation from all societal sectors. The party aims to bring in young individuals with new ideas, women leaders, academics, cultural figures, entrepreneurs, representatives from indigenous communities, the LGBTQ+ community, social organizations, and individuals with disabilities. The focus is on providing opportunities for those who seek to serve rather than gain privilege.

The next Saturday, August 8, we will give the starting signal to this territorial organization route. It will be the beginning of a permanent agenda of assemblies and citizen encounters.

Polimnia Sierra Bárcena, secretary of Government and Legislative Affairs, announced that party members will tour the 16 mayoralties throughout August to listen to proposals and strengthen the party's presence. The initiative officially kicks off on August 8th with territorial organization assemblies and citizen encounters. These meetings are designed not for the party to speak at the people, but to listen, with the ultimate goal of rebuilding a party that is close to and useful for the citizens. Rocío Sánchez Pérez, secretary of Gender Equality and Human Rights Agendas and Sexual Diversity, added that the party has initiated the process of selecting "Impulsores de la Ciudadanía Democrática" (Drivers of Democratic Citizenship) in each of the 16 mayoralties.
