Pregnant woman dies falling from window amid alleged domestic abuse

A 7-month-pregnant woman, identified as Ekram Hassan from Sudan, died after falling from a fourth-floor window in Bursa, Turkey. The incident occurred around 00:30 AM as Hassan allegedly attempted to jump to a balcony in the opposite building to escape her husband's alleged violence. Paramedics arrived at the scene but could not save Hassan's life. Her body was taken to the Bursa Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy. Her mother-in-law, present at the scene, expressed deep grief, calling Hassan her "daughter" and a "bird of fortune" from Sudan. Reports indicate Hassan had sought help at a Domestic Violence Prevention and Monitoring Center (ŞÖNİM) two months prior due to threats and insults from her husband, Ferdi Solak. She stayed at a shelter for a month before voluntarily returning home. Neighbors reported hearing fighting and witnessing Solak allegedly dangling their 3-year-old daughter from the building's terrace. When neighbors attempted to intervene, they found the apartment door locked. It was during this time that Hassan reportedly fell from the bedroom window while trying to reach the opposite balcony. Ferdi Solak was arrested by police. Investigations revealed that Hassan and Solak, a carpenter, met and married in Sudan in 2023. Hassan fell while attempting to escape her apartment during a dispute with her husband. Solak has since been arrested and charged with inciting suicide, and has been remanded in custody pending trial. Hassan's body is expected to be sent to Sudan for burial.
