Pregnant Woman Murdered in Cali; Unborn Baby Missing

The family of María Camila Potosí Gómez is devastated following her murder in Cali, Colombia. Potosí, 21, who was eight months pregnant, disappeared on July 16 and was found four days later near the Meléndez River, bound and wrapped in a sheet.

The crime has shocked the city, particularly because her unborn baby was reportedly removed from her womb. Her parents, Alba Ruby Gómez and Alexánder Potosí, expressed their anguish and demanded justice. Neighbors and family members held a protest, demanding the safe return of the baby, named Alaiha by her mother.

"When we found her, she swore she had her baby in her womb," said María Camila's mother, recounting her desperate questions upon seeing her daughter's body. "At the time of collecting her body... I asked again if the baby was with her because I wanted to be sure. I asked and insisted, but unfortunately, she did not have her."

The father confirmed with a prosecutor that the baby was not with his daughter's body. The mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder, has offered a reward of 50 million Colombian pesos for information leading to the capture of the perpetrators. The city's ombudsman's office has condemned the murder, noting it is among 49 femicides recorded in Cali this year.
