14-year-old girl dies after stabbing in Granada, Meta; 12-year-old named as suspect

A 14-year-old girl has died following a stabbing incident in Granada, Meta, Colombia. The attack occurred on the night of Sunday, July 19, in the El Recreo neighborhood. Authorities have identified a 12-year-old girl as the alleged perpetrator, who is now under the protection of the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF).

Preliminary reports from the Meta Departmental Police indicate a confrontation between the victim, Emily Tatiana Morales Hoyos, and the younger girl around 11:10 p.m. The police suggest the altercation may have stemmed from social intolerance, possibly related to bullying or mistreatment that the victim allegedly inflicted upon the accused.

However, the victim's family has offered a different account. Jhonatan Hoyos, the victim's uncle, told Blu Radio that the conflict might have been motivated by a romantic dispute. He explained that the victim had recently started dating a boy who was previously involved with the alleged assailant, suggesting jealousy as a possible motive.

The uncle also revealed that the 12-year-old had allegedly threatened Emily Tatiana earlier in the year. He mentioned speaking with the girl's parents at the time but never anticipated such a tragic outcome. He emphasized that the alleged aggressor needs help, stating, "I feel that literally the minor who committed the crime needs help, because these are not the attitudes of a person who is just starting to live."

Judicial authorities, including the Technical Investigation Unit (CTI) and the Prosecutor's Office, are investigating the circumstances and motives behind the fatal stabbing. The community and officials have expressed sorrow over the teenager's death.
