President Dan: Romania's Future Written Daily by Each Citizen

Romanian President Nicușor Dan delivered a message on National Anthem Day, highlighting the song "Deșteaptă-te, române!" as more than just an official tune. He described it as a symbol of Romanian dignity, sovereignty, and unity, deeply connected to the nation's history.

Deșteaptă-te, române! is more than an official song, becoming the very vibration of our troubled history and the call to dignity, sovereignty, and unity.

Speaking on Wednesday, Dan noted that the anthem, born from the revolutionary fervor of 1848 as a "march of freedom," has resonated through crucial historical junctures. It inspired soldiers in the War of Independence, united Romanians in both World Wars, and fueled the struggle to dismantle communism and establish democracy in December 1989.
