President Lee: Cabinet Reshuffle Expected at Appropriate Time and Scale

President Lee Jae-myung signaled that a cabinet reshuffle of an appropriate scale is forthcoming at a suitable time. Speaking at his first-anniversary press conference, Lee stated that one year into the administration, it is time to "readjust the ways and direction of work." He indicated that several ministries require changes, mentioning the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, which was previously headed by nominee Han Sung-sook. However, Lee noted that the specific timing for these changes has not yet been determined. "The cabinet cannot last until the end of the term. There are many difficult and tiring areas," Lee explained, adding that he has not yet meticulously reviewed the timing or extent of the reshuffle. He expressed confidence in the current cabinet's performance, stating, "I believe the cabinet has operated very well so far." Lee specifically lauded Prime Minister Kim Min-seok's "truly outstanding leadership," crediting the prime minister for guiding the cabinet to work cohesively towards a common goal without significant disruptions. "Perhaps there has not been a cabinet that achieved so many concrete results in such a short period," Lee remarked.
