President Lee's approval rating hits 'dead cross' for first time in term

President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating has dipped below 50% for the first time since taking office, with negative assessments now outweighing positive ones. A poll conducted between August 11-13 found that 46% of respondents disapproved of his job performance, compared to 44% who approved. This marks a significant shift from just three weeks ago, when his approval rating stood at 51% and disapproval at 38%. The decline is particularly pronounced among undecided voters, where disapproval more than doubled positive ratings. Among those with a moderate political leaning, approval and disapproval were nearly even. The primary reasons cited for negative sentiment were the administration's real estate policies and general economic conditions, while foreign policy was a leading factor for positive evaluations. Meanwhile, the poll also indicated shifts in party support, with the Democratic Party leading at 41%, followed by the People Power Party at 25%. The Reform Party garnered 3%, and the Rebuilding Korea Party received 2%. A significant portion, 28%, remained unaffiliated with any political party.
