President Lee's approval rating hits record low of 42%, disapproval at 50%

President Lee's approval rating has dropped to 42%, the lowest point since he took office, with disapproval at 50%, according to a survey by Korea Gallup released on May 28.

The poll, conducted from May 25-27 among 1,001 adults nationwide, found that the president's job performance received a 42% positive rating and a 50% negative rating. This marks a decline from the previous week, when the figures were 45% for both positive and negative evaluations.

Respondents cited foreign policy (16%), economy and public livelihood (11%), and communication (10%) as reasons for their positive assessment. Conversely, real estate policy was the most frequently cited reason for disapproval (27%), followed by prosecutorial reform (7%), economic issues (7%), and concerns about morality and avoiding personal trials (7%).

Regarding party support, the Democratic Party garnered 39%, the People Power Party 25%, the Cho Kuk Innovation Party 4%, and the Reform Party 3%. Korea Gallup noted that while the party support structure remained largely unchanged from the previous week, this is the third time the ruling party's support has fallen below 40% since the current government took office.
