President Lee: We will make every effort to find nine South Koreans missing in Nepal

President Lee Jae-myung said South Korea would make every effort to find nine nationals still missing after Nepal’s flood disaster, as their families continue to wait anxiously for news more than 10 days after the tragedy.

“Our embassy and rapid response team are working closely with the Nepalese authorities and will make every effort to find the nine people,” Lee said in a post on X. He added that the foreign minister had gone to Nepal first to inspect conditions at the scene.

Lee was speaking as he began a three-night, five-day state visit to France. He said he would continue to receive reports on the situation while in France and take whatever measures were necessary.

“It is a heavy step,” Lee said, while adding that he would carry out his diplomatic duties for the national interest and future generations without wavering. The visit follows an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron, who visited South Korea in April, and coincides with the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
