President Orders Climate Improvement for National Football Competitions

President Prabowo Subianto convened a meeting with Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir and Indonesian National Team Coach John Herdman to strategize the future of Indonesian football. Held at Hambalang, West Java, the discussion, captured on video, centered on enhancing the national team's capabilities and the overall development of the sport in the country.

Minister of State Prasetyo Hadi revealed that the talks covered strengthening the Indonesian squad, including follow-ups on the naturalization of players who recently received approval. Preparations for various upcoming international football agendas were also on the table. A significant focus was placed on improving the national competition climate to cultivate high-quality players essential for the national team's success.

"If in his capacity as General Chairman of PSSI, of course we improve our competition climate to be able to produce a great national team, a tough one, that is passionate to realize the whole dream of the Indonesian people, the national team qualifies for the World Cup," Prasetyo stated. He acknowledged the government's keen interest in the national team's performance, especially in light of failing to qualify for the current 2026 World Cup.

Prasetyo emphasized the need for more mature, early preparation and internal strengthening of the squad to effectively compete in future international events, such as the FIFA Series of 2027. The government expressed its hope that the national team, nicknamed Garuda, would eventually achieve qualification for the sport's most prestigious tournament.
