President Prabowo distributes 1,098 sacrificial cows across Indonesia

President Prabowo Subianto has allocated 1,098 sacrificial cows for distribution throughout Indonesia to mark the Islamic celebration of Eid al-Adha.

So there are 552 regions, namely 38 provinces and 514 regencies/cities, that will receive 598 cows.

According to Deputy Secretary of State Juri Ardiantoro, the distribution is divided into two schemes. A total of 598 cows will be sent to provincial and district governments across 552 regions, including 38 provinces and 514 regencies and cities. Most regions will receive one cow, while 46 areas will get two due to the unavailability of cows meeting the required weight of 800 kilograms to 1.3 tons.

There are 46 regions that do not have cows of that weight. Therefore, some will receive two cows for 46 regions.

An additional 500 cows are designated for distribution to educational institutions, such as Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), community leaders, and religious figures. Ardiantoro emphasized that all cows are healthy, certified by local health authorities, and meet Islamic criteria for sacrifice, including being at least two years old, male, and free from defects. The cattle are premium breeds sourced from local Indonesian farmers to support the nation's livestock industry and self-sufficiency in beef production.

So for the regions, 598, and for social institutions, religious institutions, Islamic boarding schools, leaders, as many as 500 cows. All 1,098 cows.
