President Tinubu swears in Abel Enitan as new Head of Civil Service

President Bola Tinubu has formally appointed and sworn in Abel Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, marking a significant transition in Nigeria's public administration. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja, where Enitan officially assumed his duties following the retirement of his predecessor, Didi Walson-Jack. Walson-Jack retired upon reaching the statutory retirement age of 60, concluding her service after a period that saw notable reforms and innovations within the Civil Service. Abel Enitan, who hails from Osun State, brings extensive experience to the role, having served as a Permanent Secretary for over seven years across various ministries, including Police Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs, and the Federal Ministry of Education, as well as the Office of the Vice President. His appointment, effective August 27, 2026, was announced by President Tinubu, who expressed confidence in Enitan's "considerable institutional experience and a deep understanding of how the Federal Civil Service works." President Tinubu charged Enitan with the critical task of consolidating ongoing reforms and innovations, enhancing professionalism and efficiency throughout the service, and fostering a more effective and responsive Civil Service. He emphasized the need for a Civil Service that is "professional, merit-driven, accountable, innovative, and responsive to Nigerians’ needs and aspirations." The President also took the opportunity to express his appreciation to Didi Walson-Jack for her dedicated service and the positive impact witnessed during her tenure. Enitan's academic background includes a B.Sc. in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos and an M.Sc. in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University.
