President urges party to aid flood prevention as Typhoon Mikala nears Taiwan

President Lai Ching-te, who also chairs the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has called for a full party mobilization to aid in flood prevention efforts as Typhoon Mikala nears Taiwan. Although the typhoon's direct strike probability is low, its outer cloud bands are projected to significantly increase rainfall across the island.

Lai emphasized that tomorrow, June 25, will be the closest approach of the typhoon to Taiwan. He also noted that a stationary front is expected to move closer, accompanied by a strengthening southwest monsoon, leading to unstable weather conditions from Friday to Saturday. Central and southern Taiwan, particularly mountainous areas, should be vigilant for short-duration heavy rainfall, and the possibility of localized downpours or torrential rain.

The Executive Yuan has been tasked with ensuring all flood prevention preparations are in place to mitigate potential damage from the anticipated heavy rainfall. President Lai instructed all party officials and local service teams to actively assist central and local government agencies in their flood control operations.

Furthermore, the DPP is tasked with enhancing public communication, disseminating the latest weather information, and reminding citizens to prepare early. This coordinated effort aims to raise public awareness and ensure comprehensive readiness to protect the lives and property of the nation's people.
