President vows no U-turns on public-friendly decisions

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake asserted that the current administration is committed to making decisions that benefit the public and has no intention of reversing them. Speaking at the 42nd National Milad-un-Nabi State Festival in Negombo, he highlighted that a new constitutional amendment seeks to bolster public confidence in the legal system and enhance the efficiency of justice.

The current government will not make any decisions detrimental to the public, nor is it prepared to reverse any decisions made for the people.

The president emphasized the government's dedication to fostering a society guided by the principles of peace, compassion, and humanity, as taught by Prophet Muhammad and other religious figures. He firmly stated that the nation will not tolerate any resurgence of racial or religious conflict.

The new constitutional amendment aims to strengthen public trust in the law and improve the efficiency of justice.

Dissanayake expressed strong faith in the power of the people to build a developed and righteous state, prioritizing public power over any other influence. He underscored the government's commitment to national unity as a foundational element for nation-building. Sri Lanka, he noted, aims to regain international respect and recognition, while also upholding the teaching that all are equal before the law.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, also recognized Maulavis who have dedicated their lives to religious services in Gampaha district mosques. Awards were presented to winners of school competitions held alongside the festival, and commemorative items including a stamp, first-day cover, a book on the history of Muslims in Gampaha, and a special publication for the 2026 National Milad-un-Nabi celebration were presented to the President.
