Third Randoli procession takes to the streets

The historic Kandy Esala Perahera continued with its third 'Randoli' procession, a vibrant display of Sri Lankan tradition and religious devotion. The procession commenced its journey eastward, traversing key streets of Kandy, including Dalada Vidiya, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Mawatha, Colombo Vidiya, Yatinuvara Vidiya, Kumara Vidiya, and Haras Vidiya, before proceeding up Raja Vidiya.

The sacred relic casket, the centerpiece of the Perahera, was majestically carried atop the elephant Singaraja. This significant undertaking was flanked by two other adorned elephants, Pulathisiraja and Miyanraja, adding to the grandeur of the event.

Thousands of devotees and spectators lined the streets to witness the spectacle, which is a crucial part of the annual Buddhist festival honoring the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. The Perahera is renowned for its elaborate costumes, traditional dancers, drummers, and caparisoned elephants, making it one of the most anticipated cultural events in Sri Lanka.
