Presidential commission updates post-earthquake assessment: 63,179 buildings inspected

More than two months after the June 24 earthquakes in Venezuela, inspectors have assessed 63,179 buildings, according to an updated report from the Presidential Commission for Infrastructure Habitability Assessment.

Of the buildings inspected, 36,698 received green labels, meaning 58% of the total. Another 14,920 buildings, or 24%, received yellow labels, while 11,561, or 18%, were given red labels.

The assessment remains underway in affected areas. The commission said 3,084 inspectors have taken part in the work since the emergency.

The process has also received technical support from international specialists. Francisco Garcés, the commission’s president, met representatives of the French Association of Earthquake Engineering, whose experts traveled to Venezuela to participate in investigations and post-earthquake assessments.

The French delegation brings experience from about 50 international missions and includes around 500 active members. Its specialists will examine earthquake damage from technical, scientific and academic perspectives, contributing expertise to Venezuela’s reconstruction process.
