PRI Leader Calls for AMLO's Imprisonment, Claims Political Persecution

Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, the president of Mexico's Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), has issued a strong call for former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) to be imprisoned. Moreno, widely known as 'Alito,' directly accused AMLO of establishing a pact with organized crime during his presidential term.

Speaking at a press conference during the PRI's parliamentary group meeting, Moreno described it as "grotesque" for the ruling Morena party to pursue and imprison opposition figures like himself while allegedly turning a blind eye to politicians within their own ranks facing accusations from the United States for ties to organized crime. "The first one they should bring to justice is the cynical, corrupt, and narco-president Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the gang of narco-juniors," Moreno stated.

Moreno argued that while the government claims a lack of evidence against accused Morena politicians, international media reports, audio recordings, and business dealings provide sufficient documentation. He specifically mentioned alleged links to fiscal "huachicol" (fuel theft) and related murders, asserting that "more than 15 people murdered, silencing those who can speak, are imputed."

Despite facing potential threats of impeachment proceedings to strip him of his immunity, Moreno expressed defiance. "It would be truly grotesque (to remove my immunity), but in the end, we have to face it. Nothing happens, as you rightly say, they will have to initiate it!" he declared. When asked if he feared imprisonment, the PRI leader responded, "I see myself defending Mexico." He asserted that he is a victim of a government that "spends its time attacking me, defaming me, slandering me."
