Prime Video announces 'Carrie' mini-series adaptation from Stephen King novel

Prime Video is bringing Stephen King's chilling tale of Carrie White back to the screen with a new mini-series adaptation. The project, helmed by filmmaker Mike Flanagan, promises to delve into the story of a young woman who, armed with telekinetic powers, grapples with the rage and misunderstanding stemming from her high school peers' rejection.

The series, titled "Carrie," will consist of eight episodes and is scheduled to debut on Prime Video on October 7. This marks a significant moment as it is the first time King's seminal 1974 novel will be adapted into a television series format, allowing for a more episodic exploration of the White family's story.

Mike Flanagan is no stranger to adapting King's work, having previously directed "Doctor Sleep" in 2019. For this new iteration of "Carrie," 16-year-old Summer H. Howell will portray the titular character, while veteran actress Samantha Sloyan will take on the role of her oppressive mother, Margaret White.

The novel "Carrie" has a rich cinematic history, with multiple film adaptations captivating audiences since its initial release. The first film adaptation, directed by Brian De Palma, premiered in 1976. This was followed by "Carrie 2: The Rage" in 1992, a television film in 2002, and a 2013 remake directed by Kimberly Pierce, starring Chloë Grace Moretz.

Stephen King's "Carrie" was a bestseller upon its release, spending several weeks on The New York Times' bestsellers list and being translated into 35 languages. The upcoming Prime Video series aims to offer a fresh perspective on this enduring horror classic, exploring its narrative across multiple episodes.
