Primož Roglič reportedly nearing move to Belgian team Lotto-Intermarché

Belgian media reports suggest that Slovenian cycling sensation Primož Roglič is on the verge of a surprising move to the Lotto-Intermarché team for the 2027 season. The 36-year-old rider's contract with Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe concludes at the end of this year, and while retirement was a possibility, recent information indicates he is considering at least one more season in professional cycling.

Should the one-year deal materialize, Roglič could find considerable autonomy in crafting his race schedule. This might offer him a final chance to pursue victories in major races he has yet to conquer, such as the Tour of Switzerland, and potentially make another appearance at the Tour de France. His previous attempt to race the Tour this year was reportedly advised against by Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe management, who prioritized other riders.

At Lotto-Intermarché, Roglič's role would differ significantly from his recent years. The team is losing Lennert Van Eetvelt and needs to fill a leadership void. With promising young talent like Jarno Widar emerging, Roglič could provide crucial guidance and take responsibility in races like Paris-Nice, the Tour of Catalonia, the Tour of the Basque Country, and the Tour of Switzerland. This would allow Widar to develop gradually under the wing of an experienced star.

The team also faces a pressing need to accumulate UCI points, having slipped to 18th in the rankings. The departure of key point scorers like Arnaud De Lie and Liam Slock further emphasizes the importance of Roglič's potential contribution.
