Prince receives posthumous album 10 years after his death

For the second time since his passing, a posthumous album from American rock star Prince is set to be released. Titled 'Timeless,' the album will feature 10 songs that have never been released before.

Described on Prince's social media as "a new collection of rare and never-before-released recordings that chart the development of Prince's legendary career," the album brings together tracks from every decade of his life, spanning from 1977 to 2016. The singles 'With This Tear' and 'Stone' have already been made available.

Prince, known for hits like 'Purple Rain,' 'Kiss,' and 'Raspberry Beret,' died in 2016. Since then, new music has continued to emerge, including his posthumous album 'Welcome 2 America' in 2021 and two demo albums released after his death.

The recordings for 'Timeless' originate from Prince's 'Vault' at his estate. This vault, shrouded in mystery during his lifetime, contains thousands of unfinished and completed songs. Prince was known for recording prolifically, often calling musicians in the middle of the night to capture musical ideas. Estimates of the number of songs in the 'Vault' range up to 8,000, with a documented list of at least 3,000 titles, indicating that this may not be the last new music fans will hear from the artist.
