Prince William to Attend King Harald’s Funeral

Prince William, the heir to the British throne, will attend King Harald V’s funeral in Oslo on Wednesday as King Charles’s representative, Buckingham Palace said in a statement to Aftenposten.

Princess Anne will also attend, but as a private guest. She is King Haakon’s godmother and King Charles’s sister.

The funeral preparations have drawn large crowds to the Royal Palace chapel, where about 4,500 people had visited by 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The queue for the public viewing had fallen to less than an hour, after visitors earlier faced waits of almost seven hours, the palace said.

Norwegian authorities have also set out practical restrictions for the ceremony. Police said umbrellas would not be allowed inside the security zone in central Oslo and warned that they could not store umbrellas taken from visitors. The public has been encouraged to wear rain clothing instead.

All 169 members of the Storting are now to receive invitations, the Foreign Ministry confirmed. Parliament initially received fewer places because Oslo Cathedral has limited capacity and many guests from Norway and abroad are expected.

Forecasters expect a cold, gray and wet day in Oslo. Temperatures should range from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius, with light winds and intermittent rain. Meteorologist Rafael Escobar Løvdahl said heavy precipitation was not expected.
