Probe after elderly woman's body found in Waterford

Gardaí in Ireland have launched a comprehensive investigation after the body of an elderly woman was discovered at a rural property in County Waterford. The woman, believed to be in her 80s, was found at a house in Ardsallagh, near Youghal Bridge.

Authorities were alerted to the scene shortly after 2 p.m. on Monday. The woman was pronounced dead at the location, which has since been preserved for forensic examination. A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and an incident room has been set up at Dungarvan Garda Station.

To support the grieving family, a Garda Family Liaison Officer has been appointed. The local coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified. The Garda Technical Bureau is also assisting the investigation, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to help determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

Gardaí are appealing to the public for any information that could assist their investigation. They are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was in the Ardsallagh or Youghal Bridge areas in recent days. Additionally, road users with camera footage, including dash-cam recordings from the vicinity, are urged to come forward.
