Progress and Socialism: Growth Improvement Not Enough

The Moroccan Progress and Socialism Party (PPS) has voiced strong criticism of the current government's economic management, asserting that a reported improvement in growth rates is merely a temporary upturn and insufficient to address deep-seated issues. The party's political bureau, in its weekly meeting, noted positive elements in Bank Al-Maghrib's latest report but stressed that these align with the party's long-standing warnings to the government about necessary reforms.

The PPS stated that the government "insisted on not responding, and on not listening to any different voice," which resulted in its term being marked by failure across various sectors. The party, which is in opposition, emphasized the need for a "structural and sustainable transformation" in the Moroccan economy. This transformation, they argue, should be based on modern industrialization, food sovereignty, natural resource conservation, support for national enterprises, and sufficient job creation, prioritizing the real needs of Moroccans.

Furthermore, the party highlighted the critical importance of "fair distribution of the fruits of growth" and ensuring that economic progress has a just social and spatial impact. They called for a significant shift in public policies to tackle record unemployment levels, integrate individuals outside the education, training, and employment systems, and improve the purchasing power of citizens struggling with rising costs. The PPS also cautioned against over-reliance on unsustainable or temporary resources, such as innovative financing or contextual tax revenue increases driven by inflation.

Beyond economic concerns, the PPS addressed international issues. They condemned racist right-wing ideologies targeting migrants. Regarding the Middle East, the PPS urged for a de-escalation, peaceful solutions, and a political resolution to prevent wider conflict, noting the severe impact on fuel prices, supply chains, and global living conditions. The party also reiterated its condemnation of Israeli actions against Palestinians and called on the international community to ensure Lebanon's sovereignty.
